Top Tips to Choose a Great Appliance Repair Company in McAllen, TX

There are many appliance repair companies in McAllen, Texas, but it can be difficult to find one that is right for your budget. There are a few ways you can go about finding the best company for your needs. The following article will help you understand how to choose a great appliance repair company without spending too much time and money.

-Call around and ask for estimates before making a decision. Some companies will come to your home or office while others may not offer that service so make sure you are clear on what is offered by each company before deciding who to go with.

-Ask about the warranty information and how long it lasts, as well as whether there are any hidden charges you should be aware of.

-Make sure the company is licensed and insured before agreeing to work with them, as well as other aspects like quality of service.

-Look at reviews for each potential appliance repair company in McAllen and see if they match up with your expectations or not. Remember that any complaint could be an indicator of the quality of work they do.

Make sure to check out the company’s reviews, both on third-party websites as well as their own website. If you see a lot of bad reviews or complaints about poor workmanship or shoddy customer service, it might be time to look for another option.

-Consider the price and whether or not you are getting a good deal for what you need to be done.

-If possible, get more than one estimate to make sure that there isn’t anything included in the job that was never mentioned when talking with them on the phone or through email.

The price of the repair job is also important, but it shouldn’t be your only deciding factor. Many companies now charge a service call fee, which usually doesn’t go into the actual parts and labor costs.

Sometimes this is written on the estimate, but other times it’s not. For a general rule of thumb, if you’ve been told that there will be an additional service call fee and the total cost still seems in line with what others are charging for comparable jobs, then you should worry about it.

Remember that these are people too trying to make a living and asking for a service call fee covers their gas and time.

-Sometimes after looking at your appliances, the repairman will say that it’s not worth repairing them and they’ll be better off buying new appliances.

-A good company should always offer you a detailed quote before doing any work on your appliance, even if all they can do is give you an estimate, at least you know what you are dealing with.

All in all, choosing an appliance repair company doesn’t have to be overwhelming. It’s just a matter of knowing what to look for and being prepared.

Here is a common breakdown of the average appliance repair cost with fees included.

Additional service call fee: $40 (average)

The total cost: varies on the severity of the problem with your appliance, but can be anywhere from $100-$500+ dollars.

PROBLEM: Condenser Coils. Have you given them a clean lately? (Your response – “What’s a condenser coil?”

WHY YOU SHOULD BE CONCERNED: First of all, your condenser coils are usually located behind the fridge either at the bottom behind the grill, or just behind the fridge itself, or even at the top. These coils regulate your refrigerators temperature, so if you don’t clean them from time to time, dust and debris can build up and mess with the temperature of your refrigerator. This makes your food unsafe and will eventually take a tole on your refrigerators overall performance.

HOW TO FIX IT: This is a quick fix. Just go down to your local hardware store and ask for a brush specifically designed to clean coils. PROBLEM: To Much Food In The Fridge.

WHY YOU SHOULD BE CONCERNED: Wait a minute, having to much food is a problem? Well this is a simple explanation. Your refrigerator keeps your food cold by venting air into the compartment. Having an overflow of food can block the air vent and prevent the proper circulation of cold air to get to every part of your refrigerator. This can result in a warmer the average environment for your fridge.

HOW TO FIX IT: Typically, its not the fresh food that causes overloading, but the leftover older food that should not be there anymore that can cause this problem. So make sure to empty your fridge every week to avoid overfilling your refrigerator.

WHY YOU SHOULD BE CONCERNED: The water filter clears out the pollutants and minerals from your local municipal water pipes. Eventually, a water filter wont matter.

HOW TO FIX IT: We recommend you change the filter every 6 months. Changing the filter isn’t rocket science, but if you need us, our professionals at True Appliance Repair are available when you need us.

PROBLEM: Oh no, The Milk Leaked Out.

WHY YOU SHOULD BE CONCERNED: Having spills in the fridge is pretty common place. A refrigerator can be a messy thing sometimes, but if you neglect to clean when these spills happen you can expose your family to food potential bacteria that can build up with liquids or foods that are left to root.

HOW TO FIX IT: Like we suggested with our overfilling solution, while you are clearing out your fridge, check for any spills that might have happened and take a mild cleaner and take care of those spills before they grow and reck havoc on your families health.

PROBLEM: Ignoring the Gaskets. Are they Leaking?

WHY YOU SHOULD BE CONCERNED: Gaskets have one job, to keep the cold air on you refrigerator. Over time these gaskets can crack. Some begin to tear with over use, and even become loose. This can lead to cold air escaping and bring the temperature of your fridge to an unsafe level.

HOW TO FIX IT: Check your gaskets from time to time. Sometimes you’ll be able to see where the damage is, but if your suspecting that they are leaking cold air, just call us and we can go and replace them for you.

6 Things to Consider when Buying appliances

Article by: Steve – True Appliance Repair Team Member

Choosing the wrong appliance can have major consequences. When looking for an appliance there are things to be taken seriously because if you choose the wrong appliance, you run the risk of throwing your money away. Choosing an appliance isn’t like choosing some new curtains or a new kitchen table or bar stools, appliances are used and needed because they have certain job to do. Other than your budget and look of your appliance, there are other very important things to consider when deciding on an appliance for your residence.

If your past the point of appliance repair, and are deciding to purchase a new appliance, then these 6 tips will definitely put you in a great position.

1. Do Your Research.

Being knowledgeable about the very thing your are going to throw money at is a very good idea. All it takes is a simple google search and you can get vast amounts of information about every type, brand and model of appliances. Information about features, pricing, and even customer reviews. Take a pen and paper and write down all the information you find and make a list the appliances you have found to be your top choices. Next we recommend you start to Compare each appliance on your list for quality, pricing and what features you are willing to pay more for, or what you are not willing to pay more for. Eventually you will find the one that best fits your home situation. Oh and don’t forget about those reviews. Reviews are your best indicators of performance.

2. Scrutinize the Features

Be smart about your appliance selection. Jot down a list of features that you are looking for and what you think you will need to have. This list will be your quick check guide so that you can better hone in your selection. This will also help you avoid paying more for an appliance that have features that you don’t need or want. Lastly, don’t get suckered into the latest features or high tech qualities of an appliance. Weight whether or not the added feature is useful to you, or just an extra expense.

3. Looks are not Everything

Be careful not to buy an appliance simply based on appearance. What may be beautiful on the outside, may be of poor quality on the inside. for this reason, research is very important before you decide on an appliance. Go for more known brands, always look at the durability and the materials it is built from, and make sure it has the features you desire to have.

4. Make Sure You Have The Space

It is always a great idea to measure the space where your appliance will be. Something that many people don’t think about is the door of the appliance. Always make sure that you account for the space needed for the door. Another measurement that we recommend is the pathway to the area in which you want to place your new appliance. Many people find that they can’t even fit it through the hallway or make that tight turn around the corner. Before you spend your money, check your space.

5. Save on Energy Costs

With modern machines and appliances, it has become standard to have energy efficiency capabilities. These efficiencies help save energy and money. Energy efficient appliances may be more common, but they are still more expensive initially. But the benefit is that you save over time on energy costs, which gives you a return on your money. Another added benefit is that these energy efficient appliances can improve airflow in your home and will always be a great choice for the environment.

6. Do Not Impulse Buy

Stores are there to make money. They use gimmicks and large fonts with bright colors to lure you in and get you to pull the trigger. They make their money and you may have just bought something you don’t even need. Before you head to your local appliance store, make sure you are educated so that you can make a smart decision. Also know your prices. Look at a variety of stores prices in your local area. Many times, the store you do decide to purchase from offer price matching, or even better will bet the prices of another store. Above all else, do your research, and shop with confidence.

Choosing a new washing machine? Here are 5 things to consider.

When it comes to clothes washers, there are many thinks to think about and consider — You have from vs top loading, stainless steel options, not to mention the various colors that you can choose from. Knowing which design, size, and brand is right for your home doesn’t have be a difficult choice. In this article we will walk you thought 5 things that you must consider when choosing a washer for your home.

If you current washing machine is in need of a repair or just an overall maintenance check, give us a call or reach out to us using our contact portal . Contact us.

Here are five things to consider when you’re buying a new washing machine.

1. Front-load vs. top-load? In our opinion, this is probably the most important thing to consider. For this you need to understand the space you have in your laundry area. We recommend for smaller spaces a from loader is your best option because you are able to stack the dryer on top. If space isn’t an issue then having a top or front loader falls under preference. One thing that we have noticed is that the “vertically challenged ” (Short) individuals tend to prefer front load washers simply because of the ability to get to the clothes easily.

Another thing to think about is the amount of clothes you will be washing and the size of your family. Most front loaders use about 21 gallons and some high efficiency top loaders use about 25 gallons. But there are some top loaders that can use up to 40 gallons of water per cycle.

Something to keep in mind is that front-loaders will take longer to run though its cycle. Even though they use less water, this could be a draw back on time management and having to wait longer for clothes to wash.

2. Does it matter how many loads I do on a daily bases?  With most modern washers, you can do several loads a week and even several loads a day. The average life of a washer is about 10 to 15 years. Considering that proper maintenance, cleaning, and not overloading have been happening.

3. I want features that make sense, which ones are good to have? If your a busy person, whether from a job or even having to take care of your family, a washer with the ability to be used with an app might be a great feature you will love to have.

When it comes to laundry, you want closes to be cleaned well but also cleaned fast. We recommend that you consider a washer with Kenmore’s Smart Motion Technology, which uses multiple wash motions and offers customized care for different types of fabric. Some machines have different programable cycles for different clothes. For kids clothes there is a cycle that is very close to a delicate cycle that is gentler then a regular wash. There are cycles for work out clothes and also.

4. What od I choose? Which one is best? Stainless steel tub or plastic? Between these two options you cant go wrong with stainless steel. The only benefit to plastic is that it is cheeper, but stainless steel is easer to clean and also more durable.

5. Do I need a warranty? and what kind of warranties are available?  Many appliance brands will offer a one year warranty. Some of those brands offer warranties for certain parts for example the outer tub can carry a 10 year warranty or even a lifetime warranty.

We love appliances, and we hope this article has help clear things up a bit. If you have any more questions please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.

3 Tips To Make Your Dryer Last Longer

Article by: Jay – True Appliance Repair Technician

1. Clean the lint trap.

Ok was it really necessary for us to put something so obvious? Maybe not but you will be surprised how much of a difference this small task can really help extend the life of your dryer. When it comes to dryer maintenance and function, it all about the AIR FLOW. Clearing our the lint keeps air flow moving with ease and doesn’t cause your dryer to work harder then it needs to be.

Speaking of Air Flow, this is true for your air conditioning ducts as well. Dust can gather and restrict air flow. For better air quality in McAllen, visit

Ok back to your dryer needs.

2. Replace an accordion-style duct.

Most homes have a ridged plastic or foil duct. This is normal, but with these kind of accordion ducts, lint can easily get trapped in the folds and restrict air flow which always places more strain on your dryer. We recommend replacing your accordion duct With a rigid metal one. The smoother walls allow for less dirt and lint to get stuck and clog your duct. Always use duct connectors and clamps made of metal or even foil tape to reinforce the sections with metal sheet metal screws.

3. Keep the duct clear.

Ideally, the duct coming from your dryer leading outside should not sag, or have any roller coaster type curves in it. It should go from the dryer down to the wall attachment. If there are folds or curves, lint can get stuck in between the ridges and begin to build up over time also restricting the air flow. This will cause your close not to dry fully, and make you have to run it again only to bring your energy bill higher and bringing your dryer closer and closer to needing repair or worse, replacement. So we recommend replacing the duct at least once a year, or just doing a simple cleaning the duct with a vacuum to save money on buying another duct.

Final Thoughts

We hope you have found this post helpful and useful and we encourage you to make these suggestions a routine for you. We don’t think about our dryer until we are forced to. Let’s make some simple changes now so that your dryer will stand the test of time, and help keep your energy cost down.

How You Can Increase The Life Of Your Appliances

Article by: Aly – True Appliance Repair Team Member

When it comes to running your house efficiently, your home appliances play a vital role in how your house runs and functions. In this article, we will share 4 things that you can do to keep your appliances running more efficiently and last a long time.

Home appliances make our lives more comfortable. With each new advance, it just makes things easier for us, and gives us time to do other things. But when that serenity is interrupted because of a broken appliance, it affects the day to day routine. Especially if something big like a dryer, washer, or microwave starts to act up or even just stop working altogether.

When this happens, it can create a cost burden on your family. To avoid these potential maintenance costs, there are several precautionary measures you can take to help with getting your appliances working for the long term.

Today we will be giving you some advice on specifically your washer, dryer, and microwave and the best things you can do to keep them working for a long time.

Washer and Dryer

  • We recommend checking your hoses from your appliances. Over time these hoses can get eroded and begin to leak, causing flooding and potentially more damage done to your home than just a broken appliance or eroded hose.
  • When it comes to laundry, don’t overload your washer or dryer constantly. Overloading can cause your machines to overwork and put unnecessary strain on their components. We recommend breaking your loads down into smaller ones so that your machines can run at their full efficiency.
  • If you find your clothes starting to smell right out of the washer, its probably because there is added moisture stuck in the drum and/or the motor. This added moisture can cause your clothes to smell and can erode at the motor over time. One way to fix this is to keep the lid of your washer open so that the wet parts of the washer can air out and dry properly. Leaving the door closed will keep all that moisture in and begin to smell up your clothes with stagnant water build-up.
  • Lastly, something that the majority of people don’t even think about is the fact that the water flow is constantly turned on, even when your washer is not being used. We recommend turning off the water flow to avoid any kind of leaks that can happen because of the water pressure.

Microwaves are a staple in all homes. Since the 40’s we have enjoyed the convenience of being able to “nuke” food in seconds. The last thing you need is for it to go out and all of a sudden, you’re back in 1938. So here are a few things you can do to help preserve the working power of your microwave.

  • To avoid having to call us to come out and repair your microwave, is to properly educate your household on things that don’t go into the microwave such as metals, aluminum, forks, and other incompatible materials.
  • Secondly, the door is often pulled harshly and closed with a loud slam most of the time. The door is vital to the proper functioning of your microwave and such should be taken care of by maintaining a softer hand while opening and closing the microwave door.
  • and finally, Do not run your microwave while there is nothing inside. It funny to think that anyone would turn it on and not have anything in it, but the way the energy of the microwave works is that it gets absorbed by the items in the microwave such as containers or food. Without anything in the microwave the internal parts receive all that energy and can damage it.

So, let’s see if we can keep your washer and dryer, plus your microwave working for a long time. If you do find yourself in need of services for any of your appliances, please let us know and we will send a TRUE appliance expert your way to handle whatever situation you have need for.

3 tips to Get Your Dishes Cleaner

Article by Leo: True Appliance Repair Specialist

Don’t run off and buy a new dishwasher, get yours serviced. This is the simplest and easy way to get your dishwasher working like new.

If you have a dishwasher that is just not performing the way it’s supposed to be, Chances are you’ll need to start looking for a professional to come in and solve the problem. At times, however, the machine isn’t the problem. It is true that most modern dishwashers can handle huge messes and stains better than those that were around just 5 years ago, there are things that we can do to help our dishwasher perform better and more efficient. Before you go out and buy another dishwasher because you’re tired of seeing yours leave the dishes dirty and wonder if maybe you should wash them by hand. Continue reading to find some helpful tips that will get your machine cleaning better.

Tip#1 – Soften Your Water

When trying to get your dishes spotless, hard water can make that very difficult. Whether your washing by hand or by machine, hard water is not your friend. We recommend having a professional run a test on your water to find out the hardness level. If the results indicate you have hard water, it would be wise to consider a water softener for your home. Softer water interacts better with soap. It creates more suds and is great for your skin. Just a side note on that. lol. With a water softener your dishes will be gleaming and cleaner.

Tip #2 – Pre-Rinse

If your the person that does a pre-washing by hand before putting your dishes into the machine, you might be hindering your machine effectiveness. Pre-washing also wastes water and time. Why have a dishwasher at all if you’re going to be cleaning them before by hand anyway. Your dishwasher is designed to fight through stains and debris. Let your washer do what it was designed to do and give the soap and jets something to work through. With that said, you don’t want large chunks hanging off your dishes before throwing them in either. So we recommend a pre-rinse before a full wash in the machine. You’ll find that this simple thing does the trick.

Run Hot Water

The last technique we recommend is to run the hot water in your kitchen sink before starting your dishwasher. Believe it or not, the dishwasher only has one connection to your home’s water line. That line is the hot water. As you know, it sometimes takes time for the hot water to run all the way through the pipes and exit through the faucet. Since your dishwasher is connected via your sink, getting the hot water going and ready will to work right when the washer fires off will create a much more efficient process and most importantly, cleaner dishes.

Buying Appliances and Electronics

Article by: Jay – From the True Appliance Repair Team

Looking for an appliance now a days can be quite daunting. The market is full of options that sometimes can make the process less enjoyable. Now we aren’t just talking about large appliances, but even the smaller ones can be overwhelming. For example a toaster is essential for a household. You may wonder how many different types could there actually be? Well, there are a lot. Our advice is try to narrow it down a bit before you go out and shop for one. Decide on a color, size, and perhaps brand. This will help make the process quick and easy.

Large appliances such as washers and dryers come in many different colors and sizes, with some being able to save on energy costs as well. When it comes to washers and dryers, top loading tend to use much more energy, which is why front loading washers and dryers are more expensive. At the end of the day they save you money on your energy bill. However if you’re ok with paying a bit more per month so that you can get a less expensive washer and dryer upfront, then hey why not.

Another thing to consider is how you will pay for your new appliance. There are different ways of buying appliances. either cash money up front, or financing. If you can, do both. Put some money down that you are comfortable with so that the portion you are financing can be less per month, and will overall keep you from paying way more in accumulated interest.

Another option would be renting or leasing the appliance. The drawback is that you will inevitably pay more for the appliance in the long run than just paying it all upfront. Don’t let that be a deal breaker though, there are positive aspects to renting or leasing your next appliance. Many of the rental establishments have a 90 days same as cash plan that you can take advantage of. This means if you pay it off in 90 days or less, You have just payed retail price. You can also get a plan where you are contracted for 24 months on an item, that comes with warranty during the entire life of the contract. Many also have free delivery. Not a bad deal hu?

At the end of the day you have options. Make a plan, figure out what is best for you and/or your family, and what you are financially able to do, then go and get it.

Of course you can always call us if you just want to get it fixed. lol sorry we had to.

Business Articles | November 29, 2015

At this day and age, there are so many different home and kitchen appliances that people employ to make daily life more convenient. These appliances have become go-to items when it comes to cutting short both time and effort in producing food and entertainment.

So when these items malfunction or stop working, owners are faced with a problem. The options are either buy a new one, opt to check out an appliance repair center or live without it. Since the last one is usually out of the question, it’s either buy a new one or have the damaged one fixed. Many think that buying is the quicker and easier route but there are times when buyers are faced with the dilemma of which to buy.

Advantages of Appliance Repair

One of the main advantages of appliance repair is the minimal cost that the repair service usually charges to fix the item. In many cases, it is just a fraction of the original buying price and helps to save the owner some money. A lot of people are relieved when their item can be fixed because it means spending less on buying a new, similar item. New items usually cost more than the amount of money needed to have an old one fixed.

Another benefit of getting the appliance fixed is the time and effort saved in actually looking for a replacement of the damaged item. Every year or so, new items come out for a particular product with different features that make choosing just one so difficult. Not to mention the variety of colors, shapes and sizes that need to be decided on by the buyer. Some stores only carry particular models while others carry others, which make the time going from store to store more tedious. Confusion can also arise from choosing which feature is best and necessary when comparing new appliances. Shopping online can be an option, but actually seeing the product and asking a salesperson about its features in detail is more satisfying for many. This consumes even more time and makes for more wasted effort if the buyer is not satisfied.

Appliance repair is always a good option because it can also take less time to fix the item compared to shopping around for a similar replacement or comparing consumer reviews. Some appliances may even need to be ordered and can take up to several days or even weeks before it can be delivered. Add up the time spent looking for an item that appeals to the buyer and choosing from the different models available with different features, and the consumer is left with several weeks without the convenience of his original appliance while having to wait for delivery of the new one.

Another distinct advantage of appliance repair is being able to continue using the appliance after it has been fixed. While a lot of people like new things, more individuals actually prefer to use their old items as long as they can because they are familiar with it and they know how to work it with ease. Familiarity with the appliance can make it a treasure for the owner. Getting used to a new one can take some time and effort which can be such a waste especially when the owner is always in a hurry.

Most repair services can also visit the home of the owner and try to assess the damaged or malfunctioning item on the spot, without taking it away. Some products may be fixed immediately with just a change of a fuse or a twist of a wire, while others may need some time to fix and will need to be brought to the repair center. The point is, most repair centers act on the repair immediately and can return the item as soon as it is ready to save the owner time. Repairs which can be done on the spot take as little as just a couple of hours and the owner can use the product when the repairman says so. Repairmen can also assess whether the item can be repaired or may need to be replaced.

These are most of the advantages that often face owners with malfunctioning or damaged appliances. These reasons are very practical and save the owner a lot of time, money and effort.
